ARIN is continually evaluating ways to better serve our community. Your suggestion that ARIN "add a last contacted date to the WHOIS database, and begin a process of contacting all orgs that have not been contacted in over a year" is something that will require further review by ARIN staff and may require input from the ARIN Board of Trustees and the ARIN community. However, ARIN could undertake this project from a slightly modified approach. Currently, there are approximately 35,000 organizations registered in WHOIS that have legacy number resources or ARIN issued number resources. A notification process could be initiated by ARIN in which all registered Points of Contact for these organizations are sent e-mail, annually, requesting them to update their registration information with ARIN. A new field called "Last Contacted Date" could be added to WHOIS as suggested, which would be populated with the date these notifications were sent. This process would assist ARIN in receiving updated registration information from all POCs associated with either legacy or ARIN issued number resources. Suggestion 2008.17 will remain open until ARIN staff are able to further review and potentially seek input from the community and the ARIN Board of Trustees if needed. |
