Regional Internet Groups Pledge Cooperation in the Caribbean
Willemstad, Curacao – The American Registry for Internet Numbers (ARIN), the Latin American
and Caribbean Internet Addresses Registry (LACNIC), and the Caribbean Telecommunications Union
(CTU) today signed a declaration of cooperation describing their intent to work together to promote the
effective use of the Internet and Internet-based resources in the Caribbean.
This week at the CTU’s 3rd annual Caribbean Internet Governance Forum in Curacao, the
organizations vowed to undertake technical education, human resource development, and public
awareness activities, and to share information and provide mutual support in their respective
endeavors.
“Today’s declaration is a natural extension of the cooperation and collaboration these organizations
have had for months,” said ARIN President and CEO Raymond Plzak.
“This will help the community work toward the development of the Internet within the Caribbean by
increasing public awareness and fostering increased Internet use in the region,” Plzak added.
By working together and sharing information, the groups can minimize the duplication of efforts and
expenditures. The groups’ activities may include educational workshops and seminars, roundtables
with public and private sector participants, research projects, and information dissemination.

ARIN is the nonprofit corporation that manages the distribution of Internet number resources – IPv4, IPv6, and Autonomous System numbers – in its service region, which includes Canada, many Caribbean and North Atlantic islands, and the United States.
