ARIN and Caribbean Telecommunications Union Host Premier Internet Community Meeting
St. Kitts and Nevis, WEST INDIES and Chantilly, VA – The American Registry for Internet Numbers (ARIN), a nonprofit that manages the distribution of Internet number resources, has partnered with the Caribbean Telecommunications Union (CTU) to host a series of events developed to raise awareness of Internet Protocol (IP) addressing challenges and policy matters. ARIN will participate in these events, including CTU’s Internet Governance Forum held August 24-25, and the Caribbean ICT Roadshow held August 26-28.
As a key partner, ARIN will deliver two presentations to audiences comprised of network engineers, regulators and Caribbean government officials. On Wednesday, August 26, Richard Jimmerson, Chief Information Officer (CIO) for ARIN, will discuss the rapid depletion of IPv4 and urgent need for IPv6 adoption. On Thursday, August 27, Jimmerson will provide an overview of the Internet numbering and naming system and the Regional Internet Registry (RIR) system.
The global Internet community is playing a crucial role in the effort to raise awareness of IPv4 depletion and the plan to deploy IPv6, as only 10.9% of IPv4 address space currently remains.
“We’re thrilled to be collaborating with the CTU to promote the need for a timely implementation of policy and regulation surrounding the adoption of IPv6 in the Caribbean,” said John Curran, President and CEO of ARIN. “It’s imperative for Caribbean decision makers to fully understand the importance of IPv6 adoption. CTU shares our drive and passion for educating the Caribbean Internet community about IPv6 and preparing for its adoption,” added Curran.
