Dear Colleagues,

ARIN, as well as RIPE NCC and APNIC, have been working very closely with AFRINIC (The African Network Information Center) to prepare for its emergence as a new Regional Internet Registry. In the future, African organizations that presently obtain Internet number resources from ARIN will obtain these resources from AFRINIC. The emergence of AFRINIC could have implications that affect your organization. The information provided below will explain what you need to know.

Commitment to our Members

ARIN is committed to its members and has put in place a structured transition for members moving from ARIN’s region to AFRINIC’s region. Details of this transition can be found at:

As detailed in the transition plan, any requests for resources approved by AFRINIC will be reviewed by ARIN until AFRINIC’s full recognition by ICANN.

Beginning September 1, ARIN will begin training with AFRINIC staff to conduct joint reviews of all IP and AS Number requests coming from the emerging AFRINIC region. Following training, these requests will be co-evaluated by ARIN and AFRINIC.

No action is required yet on your part. Eventually, African ISPs wishing to join AFRINIC will be asked to sign a new registration services agreement with AFRINIC. Your organization will be informed in advance of this requirement.
