ACSP Consultation: Open Suggestion Review for ARIN XXIX [Archived]

ARIN Community,

We are implementing the Open Suggestion Review period, part of the recently revised ARIN Consultation and Suggestion Process. For the next two weeks leading up to ARIN XXIX, we are asking you to review the seven active suggestions listed below and:

1. Comment on the merits of each - (eg. Worth doing, not worth the effort, must have, etc.)

2. For those you think have merit, rank them in your desired order of potential implementation.

We have provided a high-level staff assessment of perceived level of implementation effort for each suggestion. Be sure to read the more detailed notes at the url for each suggestion listed, links provided below.

There will be a discussion period about these suggestions during the ARIN XXIX Public Policy and Members Meeting. Within 30 days after the meeting, ARIN staff will publish the prioritized list of suggestions, noting any closed because the community found them to lack merit.

ACTIVE SUGGESTIONS ­ Seeking Community Input on Merit and Importance. Details on the anticipated Staff Level of effort to complete can be found at the url listed for each Suggestion.

2012.2 Web-Based Whois Results Improvement
Estimated staff effort to implement: $268,200 in engineering costs, plus communications efforts.

2012.1 Restore some email functionality
Estimated staff effort to implement: $52,000 in engineering costs, plus communications efforts

2011.29 Add links to Query response
Estimated staff effort to implement: $36,900 in engineering costs, plus registration services and communications efforts.

2011.21 ARIN Online User Interface
ARIN is unable to provide a level of effort for implementation at this time. ARIN plans to bring in a UI design consultant next year and will be seeking further customer experience input from the community at a later date in a separate consultation.

2011.17 Define access restrictions for APIs
Estimated staff effort to implement: $1,458,000 in engineering costs, plus significant communications efforts.

2011.7 Display Agreements Associated with Organizations
Estimated staff effort to implement: $18,900 in engineering costs, plus registration services and communications efforts.

2010.7 IP WHOIS community problem reporting system
Estimated staff effort to implement: $52,000 in engineering costs, plus registration services and communications efforts.

OPEN SUGGESTIONS ­ The following suggestions are either already assigned for consideration or are on hold pending outcomes of discussions in other organizations which may impact the scope of the suggestion. These updates are informational only, and no community input is required at this time.

2011.35 Invoice payment through ARIN Online
Currently scheduled for delivery in the 3rd Quarter 2012.

2011.34 Amend IPv6 Fee Structure
To be discussed during the Board of Trustees August 2012 workshop.

2011.22 PPML Format Change
To be considered during ARIN Advisory Council taskforce review, post ARIN XXIX.

2010.16 Legacy Registration Services Agreement Modification
This will undergo a more thorough review, possibly to include the ARIN Board of Trustees.

2009.21 Common RIR Whois Syntax
Consideration pending outcome of the IETF WEIRDS effort.

2008.14 Construct Validated IRR Data
Pending ARIN’s deployment of RPKI and work under discussion in the IETF.
