ACSP Suggestion 2010.7: IP whois community problem reporting system
Suggestion
Author: Joe St Sauver
Submitted On: 19 April 2010
Description:
I really enjoyed Leslie Nobile’s presentation on ARIN’s IP Whois POC cleanup project during today’s ARIN meeting. She did a great job, and that’s going to be a very important project.
I was curious, however: will ARIN have a community accessible IP whois problem reporting system comparable to ICANN’s WDPRS system for gTLD domain names with domain whois problems? (See http://wdprs.internic.net/ )
It would be great if there was somewhere where community members could proactively report stale or invalid point of contact data they may notice in ARIN IP or ASN whois data.
Thanks for considering this suggestion, and thanks for making this week’s meeting available to those of us who couldn’t get to Toronto in person.

Thank you for your suggestion, numbered 2010.7 upon receipt. We appreciate your positive feedback about the ARIN meeting and are glad that you were able to attend, albeit remotely!
Your suggestion that ARIN consider adding a WHOIS problem reporting system is a good one, and is something that could be of value to the community. We typically receive reports of invalid WHOIS data through the ARIN helpdesk phone and email tickets, but adding a simple web form where people could submit this type of information quickly and easily is a viable alternative.
We will add this new requirement into our development queue and try to determine how soon we can fit it into our deployment schedule. Once we determine the date, we will follow up with you, as well as announce this new feature to the community via the arin-discuss mailing list.
This suggestion will remain open until implemented. Thank you for participating in the ARIN Consultation and Suggestion Process.

Joe, we wanted to let you know that we had not forgotten about this and wanted to let you know it remains on ARIN’s web services product backlog. With regards to such enhancements, ARIN has been focused on upgrading internal systems as well as the implementation of ARIN Online. Consequently, we have not be able to schedule this work yet but plan to do so in the future. Realistically, we cannot provide a date yet but will notify you again as soon as we have it scheduled for development and subsequent deployment. This suggestion will remain open until resolved.

Staff has determined that it would cost approximately $52,200 in engineering efforts plus limited registration services and communications efforts to implement.
Implementation will be as follows:
- ARIN will provide a web form (outside of ARIN Online) for reporting stale and/or invalid POCs

Thank you again for submitting your suggestion to implement a feature to allow WHOIS users to report inaccurate WHOIS information. This feature has been implemented. There is a link provided on WHOIS pages that allows a user to complete a form to report inaccurate WHOIS information to ARIN staff.
This suggestion is now closed.
